group of patients in a meeting scenario

We're recruiting new members for our Patient Participation Group.

A word from the Chair of our Group

The PPG is a group of individuals who meet with the Practice Manager once every 4-6 weeks. Every GP Practice is contractually required to have a PPG, and our role is to help facilitate communication between practice and patients. We also help, when appropriate, with practice events such as at the annual flu clinics and with NHS App events. It’s an interesting volunteering role as we hear what’s happening in the practice and can suggest ideas to help aid communication and improve patient experience.  It is not a forum for complaints; we aim to be proactive. We do listen to fellow patients and their concerns and can bring their issues to the ppg committee meetings.

We really need more members to help on the committee. It’s very rewarding and we’re a nice bunch of people! It’s also not too onerous and no skills are required, just an interest in helping the practice operate as well as it can.

If you are interested in volunteering or would like a chat about the role, please contact the Practice Manager, who can put you in contact with our PPG Chair, Sheila.

Meningitis B Update

Meningitis B Update
Vaccinations:
In light of the recent Meningitis B outbreak in Kent, we would like to clarify our position regarding Meningitis vaccinations.
The Meningitis B vaccine was introduced in 2015 and is part of the routine childhood immunisation schedule. We are only able to administer this vaccine to children up to the age of 2. Anyone over the age of 2 will need to access the vaccine privately. There are no current plans for a national catch-up campaign.
The Meningitis ACWY vaccine is routinely offered to teenagers through school-based programmes. If you are under 18 and have not received this vaccine, please contact the School Nurse team on 0300 790 9854.
If you are aged 18–24 and have not yet had the MenACWY vaccine, please contact the practice to arrange an appointment.
You can also check your vaccination records via the NHS App.
Antibiotics:
GPs have been asked to prescribe antibiotics to certain people who attend the University of Kent, close contacts identified by the UKHSA & people who attended a club (Club Chemistry) in Canterbury on 5-7th March. If you are a patient of Park Medical Practice, and fall into one of the above categories, please contact us.
